Do you realise it’s now a year since Ruddington’s Co-op was officially relaunched by village schoolchildren wearing spooky, Hallowe’en attire, following its extensive refurbishment?
Whilst such public gatherings are not being encouraged during these strange, COVID-19 times, the Church Street store is marking the milestone with a challenge local youngsters can complete on their own or with their families.
Gwen Eyre, Co-op Member Pioneer for Ruddington says: “To celebrate the first anniversary of the restyled Co-op store here in Ruddington we are holding a Hallowe’en competition. We are inviting EVERYONE to design a Hallowe’en mask to display in the window. Create a mask that fits on a piece of A4 paper using any materials you have at home.” Some examples are already being displayed (top photo).
There will be prizes for the best masks in the following four categories:-
- Pre-school
- Reception -Y2
- Y3-Y6
- Y7- Adult
Gwen continues: “To avoid staff handling the masks, please take it to the store and stick it in the window with the blue tack provided. Please write your first name, your age group and a contact number on the back to be in with a chance of winning.”
The closing date and time is this Friday 30th October at 9am – with the winners in each category being contacted later in the day.
Alternatively, or additionally, The Friends of James Peacock School have organised a ‘Pumpkin Trail’ around Ruddington, which you can complete any time up until this Saturday, October 31st.
Organiser Emily Cooper (pictured above) says: “There’s no need to register – just collect your trail form from The Bottle Top or email fjp.committee@yahoo.co.uk to request one. Visit the different streets named on the form to find the pumpkins and mark what you find on the form. Each participating house has a Friends of James Peacock sign.” A couple of examples of what you’re searching for can be seen below.
Emily adds: “Once you’ve finished the trail, take your completed form to show The Bottle Top, and pay £1 to claim a fantastic Hallowe’en goody bag. All money raised goes directly to Friends of James Peacock to fund extras for the children at school.”
The pumpkins are in place from now until Hallowe’en night, Saturday 31st October, and then you have until Saturday November 7th to return your form to The Bottle Top at 2, High Street.
